Vienna doesn't go to bed early. Anyone who knows the city's inner workings knows that the most interesting part of the night often starts just as the lights go out elsewhere. Vienna after dark isn't about volume, it's about finding the right place at the right hour.

Bermuda Triangle: King's Bar and Meinz Sportsbar

In the Bermuda Triangle, right on Ruprechtsplatz, King's Bar has been one of the most reliable names in Vienna nightlife since 2014. Long drinks, cocktails, supersized versions, a shot menu full of house creations, and in summer an outdoor seating area that takes over the square.

Also in the Bermuda Triangle: Meinz Sportsbar, with nine screens and a projection surface nearly three meters wide, where sport isn't just broadcast, it's experienced together.

Hard Rock Cafe and Flex on the Donaukanal

On Rotenturmstraße, Hard Rock Cafe Vienna combines international rock culture with American food across several levels: two bars, a stage for live music, and a terrace for the warmer months.

On the Donaukanal, near Schottenring, Flex has held onto its underground charm since the 1990s: Friday and Saturday nights of techno, drum and bass, and dub, with a waterside terrace added in summer. One of the few genuine clubs in the city that hasn't changed, because it's never seen a reason to.

Das Loft and the Gürtel Arches

For those who prefer the evening to wind down slowly: Das Loft, on the 18th floor of the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom, has the most spectacular night view in the city. Top tier cocktails, a ceiling installation by Pipilotti Rist.

And under the railway arches of the Gürtel, between Thaliastraße and Gumpendorfer Straße, a whole subculture lines up in a row, showing Vienna's other side. Chelsea, Rhiz, B72: live concerts, indie, electronic music, old brick arches that come alive at night. No dress code, no staging, just music.

Vienna in summer doesn't stop at night. You just need to know where to start.
